Dr. Joel Saune has been very busy visiting government offices, trying to work his way through a lot of red tape involved with operating an orphanage and in importing donations of equipment and medicines. Cusco is way up in the mountains, so he has had to make a number of trips down to the coast and to Lima to clear the container we sent months ago. That is finally out of customs.
Then a shipment of donated medicines for tropical diseases from a pharmaceutical firm was sent by air, and all air cargo has to clear customs in Lima, regardless of destination. So he has had to make more trips to Lima for that. He has run short of funds trying to receive this gift worth thousands of dollars.
Then complications with various government agencies have come up over the operation of the orphanage. I find this ironic, because the government itself acknowledges that there are thousands of children not being cared for; all available orphanages, government and private, are filled to the limit. But local bureaucracies must have their say! Pray for Dr. Saune; he is a patient man, but running just a little low on patience.
